Services

I provide in-person therapy in the Charleston area and virtual therapy all over the state of South Carolina to individuals over the age of 18. I am both competent and affirming in working with Queer and Trans clients. I tend to be a good therapeutic fit for deep feelers who are ready to try something different on their journey to trauma healing.

Approaches to Therapy

In my work with clients, I use EMDR, ego states/parts work, mindfulness & somatic techniques, all of which provide a safe foundation for our magnificent brains to imagine, reprocess emotion and befriend our bodies. I find that beginning our work together with education on attachment, along with trauma's impact on the nervous system, helps you feel more comfortable and empowered throughout the EMDR therapeutic process.

I make space for clients to cultivate compassion towards themselves, to gain insight and to process difficult experiences, and most importantly, to grieve those experiences. Sometimes we will get weird because I believe that part of healing is allowing the nervous system to feel free and present, so I am intentional about creating moments of silliness and creativity. Ideally there will be lots of laughs alongside cleansing tears. â€‹â€‹â€‹

EMDR Therapy
(Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

EMDR therapy is an extensively researched & effective psychotherapy used to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic experiences. EMDR is based on the idea that our brains have a natural way to recover from trauma. Keeping one foot in the present and one in the past along with bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, etc.), allows adaptive information to flow in while 'stuck' information flows out. I to my own heart, I to seek among phrases and fragments something unbroken."

- Virginia Woolf

Ego states/Parts work

My approach differs from traditional talk therapy and instead focuses on helping you connect with all past parts of yourself from a place of compassion and gentleness. I have found ego state therapy and parts work to be invaluable in reducing shame and moving through grief, both of which I believe keep trauma “stuck” in our bodies. All parts of you are welcome - whether that be your inner child, an angsty teen part, or your inner critic.

Somatic & mindfulness techniques

Using somatic & mindfulness techniques, we will move away from intellectualizing your struggles and move towards holding space for your emotions and their connection in your body.

A regulated nervous system is key to trauma healing. Just as traumatic memories and flashbacks can be distressing, calming and reparative visualizations can be stabilizing. For this reason, I rely heavily on imagination, visualization and creativity to enhance a sense of safety from within each client.

Body Liberation

The world can be an unkind place for those of us who live in larger bodies. Anti-fat bias and weight stigma permeate every aspect of our lives - in doctors' offices, at family dinner tables, in the workplace, at coffee shops with friends, on social media, and even in the spaces of well-meaning therapists. â€‹

I provide a fat-positive space for you to:

  • release shame associated with living in a larger body -  this shame was never yours to hold

  • grieve the pain of past trauma related to fatphobia

  • cultivate resilience and increase self-advocacy in the face of ongoing size discrimination.

You deserve to feel at home in your body. You deserve to experience love, joy, safety and tenderness in your body. I would be honored to gently guide you in your journey toward body liberation.

"Our unapologetic embrace of our bodies gives others permission to unapologetically embrace theirs." - Sonya Renee Tayor
